Vance wrote an article in 2020 about how terrible and misogynistic it is that people were calling Jacinda "Cindy". Her tune has changed in 5 years.

Agree completely on the use of the misogynistic slurs, however it doesn’t just end there.

As someone who has been traditionally a Labour supporter, I have to say that Hipkins response was pathetic.

It then got worse. Quite why Jan Tineti thought citing Vance’s ad hominem screed as a way of challenging van Velden was a good idea is beyond me. For her then to try and argue equivalence between Vance’s use of the C word & van Velden referencing it to highlight the misogyny is simply embarrassing.

It also needs mentioning that even without the slurs, Vance’s piece was spectacularly ill advised. I realise the ship sailed long ago on blurring reporting and comment, but it stuns me that any editor could think having a senior editor write an opinion column so partisan and so shrill, was in any way advisable.

Whatever people may have thought of her before (Stuff’s political slant is hardly a secret) she’s completely torched any reputation as an ‘journalist’ in the ordinary sense of the word, instead of a partisan hack.

Whatever your political persuasion the damage that does to public discourse should depress everyone.
