The PIJF may have permanently undermined what little trust was left in NZ journalism. One tries to avoid the " burn it down " mentality, but shutting down and rebuilding our public broadcasting organs from scratch may be the only viable solution to reform these ideologically captured institutions.

I've tried to engage with Gavin Ellis on some of the serious problems the entire intellectual and financial model of journalism faces and have found him to be very prickly, high handed and closed minded. Unwilling to debate some of the bedrock issues facing journalism as a profession and journalists as a class.

I think we are seeing an example of "It's difficult to get a man to understand something if his job depends on him not understanding it".

I think there are real solutions to these problems, but if they don't have Professors of Journalism directing them then they are unlikely to be of much interest to men like Professor Gavin Ellis.
