A delightful "satire" thanks Roger that's rather closer to fact than many would recognise. Most "regulators", ALL Labour, Green and Maori Party politicians have never run a business (without taxpayer support) and even many other politicians fall into the same bracket.

That means they have no belief or understanding of "competition", which stems from capitalist energy. As you correctly say: open the doors and competition will come of its own accord. You also point out that NZ population can only support so many players in some highly capitalised businesses. Big chain supermarkets have massive investment in logistics (aka supply-chain management) that make it possible for them to offer "fast moving consumer goods" at better prices than any other retailers can. I doubt any other supermarkets would enter the NZ market even if all barriers were removed... not enough population. But (as you say) open the doors and reduce barriers and see what happens.

And then we are 'proud' that it is so easy to do business in New Zealand.....just saying.
